.MOV BOASTS OF IMPRESSIVE SPEAKERS
ON DIGITAL FILMMAKING
Maverick experimental filmmaker Jon Jost, leading
European cinematographer Marcel Zyskind, and expert sound recordist
Andrew Boulton have all signified their intention to come to the
Philippines and conduct workshops on basic digital video filmmaking,
cinematography, and sound design, respectively, as part of the second
.MOV International Digital Film Festival this March 2 to 8, 2005
at SM Cebu City.
JON JOST is the first recipient of the John Cassavetes
Award for lifetime achievement granted by the Independent Features
Project. He also received the Experimental/Independent Film Award
from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association for his work "All
the Vermeers in New York" and the Paul Pierre Standifer Award
for Cinematography for "Dharma Do As Dharma Does."
Since the early 70's, Jost has conceived, written,
photographed, directed and edited over 20 short films and 13 full-length
features, exploring such topics as the legacy of Vietnam, the manner
in which men and women relate, consumerism in American society,
and friction between the classes. Dubbed "the American Godard"
by critics, he is considered among the most innovative and influential
independent directors in contemporary cinema.
Meanwhile, MARCEL ZYSKIND has worked as a director
of photography for full-length features "Bullet Boy" (Saul
Dibb, 2004), "9 Songs" (Michael Winterbottom, 2004), "Code
46" (Winterbottom, 2003), "In This World" (Winterbottom,
2002), and the
short film "Post" (Phil Traill, 2002). He has been nominated
for best cinematography at the European Film Awards for two consecutive
years now. He is currently working with Winterbottom again as DOP
for "Tristram Shandy."
Zyskind also served as camera operator for "28
Days Later" (Danny Boyle, 2002), steadicam operator for "Days
Like This" (Michael Hafstrom, 2001) and focus puller and additional
camera operator for "24 Hour Party People" (Winterbottom,
2001) and "Dancer in the Dark" (Lars von Trier, 2000).
For his part, ANDREW BOULTON is currently the Head
of Sound Production at the National Film and Television School in
the UK. He designed and implemented a post-graduate/post experience
course in Screen Sound at the NFTS and supervised the installation
and introduction of state-of-the-art technology.
Boulton worked as sound recordist for the
British Broadcasting Corporation and pursued a freelance career
after, working with directors Ken Loach and Jim Goddard, among others.
He is a member of the Institute of Broadcast Sound, the British
Kinematograph Sound and Television Society, the Audio Engineering
Society, and the Royal Television Society.
