UP LUZON CAMPUS TOUR
The .MOV campus tour concluded its Luzon run with
"Symposium on Digital Filmmaking in the Philippines" and
screenings of Silvershorts 2002 winners at the Pablo Nicolas Auditorium,
De La Salle University, Taft Avenue last October 29.
The event is part of the promotional activities
for the second .MOV International Digital Film Festival to be held
at SM City Cebu from December 1 to 7.
The digital film festival, which aims to promote
and advance digital filmmaking in the Philippines and to establish
it as the future of Philippine cinema, intends to reach out to more
students, professors, film practitioners, filmmakers, and cineastes
nationwide.
Aside from DLSU, the .MOV team also held digital
filmmaking seminars and short film screenings in other campuses
in Metro Manila, namely Miriam College, University of Santos Tomas,
Ateneo de Manila University, DLSU-College of St. Benilde, and University
of the Philippines, Diliman.
As part of its information campaign, the .MOV group
also went to other colleges and universities nationwide to promote
the festival and encourage students to join SMART CUTS, the newly
launched 60-second short film competition sponsored by leading wireless
services provider Smart Communications Inc.
Organized by Filmless Films, an independent digital
production company, .MOV showcases innovative full-length and short
films from local and international independent filmmakers, empowered
by new digital production tools such as digital video cameras, non-linear
editing systems, digital audio, and visual effects software.
The first .MOV took place last January 2002 at
Greenbelt and Brash Young Cinema in Makati City and at the Cultural
Center of the Philippines Dream Theater (Tanghalang Manuel Conde).
The .MOV campus tour will resume in Cebu and Dumaguete
colleges and universities this November.
