Blind the Eye of the Storm: .MOV Signals Three!

.MOV (pronounced “dot-mov”), the first digital filmfest in the Philippines which jump started the digital revolution in the country back in 2002, will have its third edition in Robinsons Galleria Cinema from September 30 to October 7, 2008.

The Opening Night will be on September 30, Tuesday, and the Closing & Awards Night will be on October 4, Saturday. Parallel screenings in the cities of Bacolod , Dumaguete, and Iloilo will be held from September 24 to October 7. The 3rd .MOV International Digital Film Festival, headed by Festival Director Khavn De La Cruz has six major sections consisting of foreign and local full-length and short films, tributes, workshops, film concerts, and after parties. The motto for this year’s festival is “Blind The Eye Of The Storm” --- losing sight of the limits and controls that plague cinema, so that we can stare at our infinite possibilities as a culture.

"Not sure if I feel more like Muhammad Ali or Joe Frazier, but .MOV was a thrilla either way."
ROB NILSSON, Cannes Camera d'Or Sundance Grand Jury Prize Winner

"Have no fear: the real digital filmmaking revolution is still very much alive, although you may have to travel to a festival in the Philippines to witness it. .MOV is the Philippines' long-awaited answer to the rousing call of the Digital Revolution."

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SILVERSHORTS WINNERS!

(with Jury notes added)

Open Category WINNER - Jose Marquez Basa
AMPO

"a great exercise in a poetic use of sound and image, using only one line of dialogue to capture a rich mood. It is found to be “nicely short” and the mise-en-scene has the right distance. The BEST SHORT FILM for this category has a cinematic coherence, as well as a certain sense of vastness – it is a film that opens up spaces."

Student Category 1st - Renei Dimla
ANOMI

"effectively uses edgy animation to propel forward an inventive social commentary. The animation is deceptively simple, yet it flourishes in an inventive and lyrically free structure. Add to that the great merging of soundtrack to image and you have a fascinating design of primitive children’s animation with focused storytelling and social consciousness. "

2nd - Juan Manuel Alcazaren
ULTRA

"vivid imagery, providing an effective crosscutting of pastoral and media news to capture the anxieties of heterosexual love. It is a film finely realized by a director who knows what he’s doing, has a good sense of measure, of rhythm and space. "

3rd - Mark Sherwin Maestro
PUBLICO MACATA (PUBLIC POET)

"a stunning welding of voice, music and images of religiosity and hypocrisy, sexuality and perversion. It is a poetic rendition of images and sound in the contemporary mechanized world. This work hits all the heatedly poetic, ‘adult’ themes missing in other shorts: obsession, religion, and sexual desire served up hot and sticky."
